Hard chrome plating is widely used as coatings resistant coating to extend the service life of mechanical parts . However, conventional hard chromium plating process produces hexavalent chromium ions, which is a known carcinogen . Thus, the entire electroplating industry is a major effort to replace hard chrome plating and environmentally friendly , non-carcinogenic coatings have similar or superior to hard chrome .
